Dal Biryani With Vegetables is a combination that is wholesome and yet packed with spices, flavours, and taste. I came up with this Biryani Recipe when I was packing the kid's lunch boxes and then I realized that I wanted to include more protein in their diet.
Instead of rice with vegetables, I decided to add the green moong to it and spicing it up. Combining Whole Green Moong along with rice, spices, and nuts was one of the best dishes I have savored in my lifetime.

Step 1 Wash rice and dal and then pressure cook the rice
Wash rice and dal in two separate bowls. Pressure cook both with salt, turmeric powder, and asafoetida powder, and enough water to not make them mushy. This is a tricky step. Once cooked, keep aside until required. -
Step 2 Saute all the spices with onion-garlic
Meanwhile, heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot enough, fry mustard seeds, bay leaves, cinnamon, and cloves in it. Now after a minute, add chopped onions and saute for 4-5 minutes till they appear translucent. Now, add garlic, ginger, and chopped tomatoes to the same pan and cook well. Add coconut. Switch the flame to low after 2 minutes. -
Step 3 Add rice to the sauteed
Finally, add the rice and dal into the sauteed masala prepared. Mix well and pour a little oil over it. Cook for 3-5 minutes over medium flame. Your Dal Biryani is now ready, transfer it to a rice bowl and serve hot.
