Step 1 Pressure cook the black beans
Wash black- eye pepper beans, and put in pressure cooker along with water. Let it cook on high heat for the first whistle and then on medium heat for another 15-20 minutes. Turn off the stove and wait for the pressure to go down.

Step 2 Make a paste
Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, then add curry leaves and let it cook. To it add besan and roast it. Add water and make a paste. To this paste add tumeric powder, red chilli powder and salt. Let this cook

Step 3 Add the lobia (black eyed beans)
To the cooked paste add the black eyed beans without draining the water. Next,add tamarind paste and jaggery and water if required as per gravy preference.

Step 4 Serve hot
Switch off the gas and add coriander powder. Serve immediately otherwise the gravy will start thickening.
