  • Step 1 Preheat the oven at 175 degrees C

    Grease a baking dish or square pan with butter and preheat the oven to 175 degrees C (375 degrees F).

  • Step 2 Prepare the batter for bread

    In a large skillet, melt butter and gradually add in other ingredients like sugar, eggs, buttermilk and baking soda while whisking continuously till well-blended. Now add cornmeal, all-purpose flour and salt. Blend and ensure that there are almost no lumps remaining.

  • Step 3 Bake the bread for 30-40 minutes

    When the batter is ready, pour it into the baking dish or greased pan and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes. Insert a toothpick and if it comes out clean, your golden crusty cornbread is ready!

Tips :

  • If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make your own by mixing 4 tbsp of vinegar with regular milk. Allow it to get sour for five minutes before adding to the batter.

  • If you want a richer sweet flavour in your cornbread, use brown sugar instead of white.
