Aloo ka Bharta is a North Indian recipe made using potatoes and a lot of Indian spices. This side dish recipe goes well with naan/roti on all occasions.

  • Step 1

    Peel the boiled potatoes and cut into cubes (you can mash the potatoes here also).

  • Step 2

    Heat oil in a pan/kadai/wok, add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle in the oil.

  • Step 3

    Add in the green chilies and fry for a minute. Add chopped potatoes and mix well with the cumin seeds and chilies.

  • Step 4

    Add spices like turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt.

  • Step 5

    Saute the potatoes for 1 minute and then mash it with the spoon or fork (don't fully mash it).

  • Step 6

    Add in the lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves. Mix the whole mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes so that all the masalas and fresh herbs are cooked with the potatoes.

  • Step 7

    Serve hot with chapati, puri, curd or as a side dish.
