Jaisalmeri Chane Recipe
Jaisalmeri Chane is a traditional Rajasthani recipe that is loved by foodies all over India. This simple recipe is made using ingredients like black chickpeas, onion, tomato, coconut milk and a melange of aromatic spices like coriander, red chilli, garam masala powders, asafoetida etc.

Step 1
Start by draining the excess water from soaked chane and transfer the chane to a pressure cooker. Add enough water to cover the chane and sprinkle salt. Close the lid and cook over medium flame. Once done, take it off the flame. Meanwhile, chop the onions and red chilli finely and grate the tomatoes in separate bowl.

Meanwhile, place a non-stick pan over medium flame and heat olive oil in it. When oil is hot enough, add cumin seeds, asafoetida and fenugreek seeds. Let the seeds splutter and and add the chopped onion in it. Cook it until the onions are soft and translucent.

Now, add chopped tomatoes and stir-fry until they are tender. Cook the mixture for a minute or two or until it starts to thicken. Now, sprinkle coriander powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and turmeric powder in it. Mix it well and make sure that each of the ingredients is well coated with spices. Sprinkle salt and cook it until the oil is released in the pan.

Next, add coconut milk and a little water for the gravy. Mix it well and add boiled chane in the pan. Give it stir to coat the chane and cook over medium flame for 10 minutes. When you get the desired consistency, remove from heat, garnish with chopped red chilli and curry leaves. Transfer it in a bowl and serve it hot with steamed rice or chapati to enjoy!
