Ingredients:

For Marination :

  • 2 teaspoon red chilli powder

Recipe :

  • Step 1 Marinate the fish

To prepare this Goan recipe, wash the fish and pat dry. Cut into pieces and apply turmeric, salt and little red chilli powder over them and massage well. Let the fish rest for around 20 minutes. Then, peel and thinly slice the onion in a bowl and keep aside.

  • Step 2 Sauté onion and spices

Next, put a non-stick pan over medium flame and add a teaspoon of oil in it. Once the oil is hot enough, add dry red chillies, cumin seeds and black peppercorns in it and wait till you can smell the aroma of the spices. Once sauteed, transfer these spices in a bowl and add sliced onion to the same pan and sauté until it caramelizes. Once the onion is sauteed, turn off the flame and transfer to a bowl.

  • Step 3 Prepare the gravy of fish curry

Grind the sautéed spices, freshly grated coconut, coriander seeds, garlic, ginger and caramelized onions into a fine paste. Heat 4 teaspoons of oil in a pan and then sauté the paste for 2-3 minutes. During this process, add turmeric, red chilli powder, tamarind pulp and salt as per your taste. Once your paste is completely ready, add hot water to the paste to make a thin gravy and wait till the gravy comes to a boil.

  • Step 4 Cook marinated fish in gravy

While the gravy boils, slowly add the marinated fish pieces to the gravy and let it cook for another 5-8 minutes. Cover the pan while cooking for 5 minutes. Turn off the flame once done and serve hot.
