Sakhar Bhat or Keshar Bhat is traditional sweet recipe in Maharashtra-Goa (Konkan) region. It is made during the auspicious days and festivals and is popularly enjoyed during Ganesh Charurthi.

  • Step 1

    Wash rice 2-3 times with clean water, and soak in 1 cup water for 15 minutes.

  • Step 2

    In a cooker, heat ghee till it melts. Once ghee melted, add cloves. Once cloves leaves aroma, add strained rice. Saute well lightly without breaking rice.

  • Step 3

    Add salt, dry fruits, cardamom. Saute well. Add sugar and mix properly, let rice gets coated with sugar.

  • Step 4

    Add orange or yellow food colour. Add Saffron mixed with water. Add cold water of rice's double quantity.

  • Step 5

    Close lid of the cooker. On low flame cook the rice for two whistles. After two whistles, put off the gas flame. Do not open the lid until cooker is cooled down. Set the rice in a plate. If required cut into chunks to serve.
