  • Step 1 Marinate the crabs for 30-40 minutes

    In a bowl, take cleaned crabs and mix them with 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Mix well and marinate for 30-40 minutes.

  • Step 2 Cook the masala for the gravy

    Put a pan over medium flame and heat oil in it. Add chopped onions in it and saute them till they are pink in colour. Add grated ginger garlic in the pan and saute till the raw smell is gone. Now, add tomatoes in the pan and saute till the masala leaves oil. Next, add the remaining turmeric powder in it along with chilli powder and garam masala and kokum. Stir to mix well and saute for 2 minutes. Add a little water in the masala and let it cook for a minute.

  • Step 3 Cook the crabs with coconut paste and masala for 10 minutes

    Now, add the marinated crabs in the masala and let them cook till the crabs are half done. Meanwhile, prepare a ground mixture of grated coconut, coriander seeds, cloves, peppercorns, chillies and cinnamon together. Add this coconut paste to the crabs and let the gravy masala cook for 5 minutes till a good boil is seen.

  • Step 4 Once done, serve with chapati or rice

    Once crabs are cooked properly, put off the gas flame. The Crabs Masala is ready to serve with chapati or white rice.
