Coconut Chocolate Modak Recipe
Lord Ganesha used to love modak, and this is why modaks are predominantly made on the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi. A Hindu festival which falls in the month of Bhadra on the day of Shukla Chaturthi, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated across the Indian Subcontinent with great pomp and show. Coconut Chocolate modak is one such recipe which will definitely add to the colours of the vibrant festival. The sweet dish, which is prepared using grated coconuts and melted white and dark chocolate, is an utmost heaven in itself.

Step 1 Knead a dough for the covering of modak
For making this amazing modak, sieve all purpose flour (maida), and add salt and refined oil to it. Pour an appropriate amount of warm water and knead a smooth dough. Keep it aside for a while.

Step 2 Melt white and dark chocolates together and let them cool
Take a saucepan and add dark and white chocolate to it. Melt both the chocolates over a medium flame until they mixture turns smooth and shiny. Once melted, keep the container aside to cool.

Step 3 Prepare the chocolate-coconut filling for modak
In a flat bottomed frying pan, add some ghee and saute grated coconut in it. After a while, add sugar and cardamom powder to the sauteed coconuts and lastly add melted chocolate into the mixture. Stir thoroughly and let the amalgamation cook until it thickens. Cool the mixture down and make small balls out of it. Keep them aside.

Step 4 Prepare modak using greased modak moulds
Take out the maida dough (Step 1) and pull small portions out of it. Roll he portions to make a small disc (roti) of the 3-4 inches diameter. Place the disc on your palm and place the chocolate and coconut mixture balls (Step 3) right at the centre and make modaks with the help of a greaded modak mould.

Step 5 Steam the modak for 15-20 minutes and serve hot
Prepare the steamer and steam the modaks for about 15-20 minutes and enjoy them hot.
