Palak Biryani Recipe

This is a one-pot biryani that is very easy to make. You can use both fresh as well as frozen spinach in the recipe. For frozen spinach thaw first and then squeeze all the water before using it.

I won’t suggest adding any other greens like fenugreek as it will alter the taste. You can make this biryani more healthy by adding vegetables like potatoes, green peas, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, etc.

Spinach is a superfood. It is loaded with tons of nutrients, high levels of vitamins K and A, protein, iron, and minerals.

Spinach improves athletic performance, reduces cholesterol levels, and lessens the risk of heart disease.

Spinach is important for skin, hair, and bone health.

Recipe:

  • Step 1 Pressure cook rice and blend spinach with coriander and mint leaves

To prepare this easy biryani, wash and soak the rice for 30 minutes. Then, pressure cook the rice with 2 cups of water with a little salt added to it. Meanwhile, carefully wash the spinach underwater. Now, chop them and keep it aside in a separate bowl. Rinse the mint and coriander leaves as well. Now, in a blender, add the chopped spinach leaves along with mint and coriander leaves. Blend it to a smooth paste.

  • Step 2 Saute the whole spices in ghee

Heat ghee in a large pan over medium flame. Once hot, add ginger and garlic paste along with cinnamon sticks, green and black cardamoms, cloves, bay leaves, mace, red chili powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder. Saute it by continuously stirring the ingredients in the pan.

  • Step 3 Cook the spinach paste for 2-3 minutes and add rice to it

Now, in the same pan add the paste you prepared in the very first step. Mix it really well over medium flame. Check for the rice now. If prepared, add them to the pan as well and give it a good stir. Sprinkle some salt over it now.

  • Step 4 Add rice to this spinach paste and cook for 2-3 minutes, serve hot

Add little water into the pan and cover it with a lid. Boil it over medium flame for five to ten minutes, till the rice soaks in the spices and water. Remove the lid and your palak biryani is now ready. Garnish it with a dry red chili and garlic slices. Serve hot.
