  • Step 1 Cut broccoli in large pieces

    To make this dish, wash and trim the florets of the broccoli, and cut into 1- to 1 1/2-inch piece. Peel the broccoli stalks and slice 1/4 inch thick diagonally. Set aside.

  • Step 2 Prepare soy and cornstarch slurry

    Whisk together 1/2 cup water, soy sauce, cornstarch and sugar in a small bowl. Set aside.

  • Step 3 Stir fry the broccoli florets and stems

    Now, heat a large wok over high heat and add 2 tablespoons of sunflower oil in it. Swirl to coat the wok and when the oil begins to smoke, add the broccoli florets and stems and cook, stirring constantly, until edges are browned it may take about 2 minutes).

  • Step 4 Add water and cook for another 2 minutes

    Add 2 tablespoons of water to cook the broccoli while stirring constantly until tender.

  • Step 5 Add ginger-garlic and red chilli flakes

    Push the broccoli to the edges of the pan, forming a well in the cent\re. Add the remaining 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, chopped scallions, garlic, ginger and chilli flakes, and stir until aromatic for 30 to 45 seconds.

  • Step 6 Add corn starch and soy slurry

    Add the soy and corn starch mixture, and stir until the sauce has thickened and the broccoli is coated for about 30 seconds.

  • Step 7 Turn off the flame

    Remove from the heat, garnish with sesame oil and toss well. Enjoy!
