Nihari Gosht Recipe

Nihari Gosht is an absolutely delicious and a popular delicacy of the Mughlai cuisine. This lip-smacking non-vegetarian recipe is prepared by cooking lamb meat slowly on a very low flame for as good as 3-4 hours. Cooking lamb meat for this long period will make it more succulent and make the dish drool-worthy.

  • Step 1 Heat some ghee

    To prepare this Mughlai recipe, put a deep-bottomed pan over medium flame and add some ghee. Let it melt and when the ghee is hot enough, add the chopped onions and saute until it is golden in colour.

  • Step 2 Stir fry the spices and the mutton

    Now, take another deep-bottomed pan, add some ghee and allow it to heat. Then add mutton pieces and stir them on high flame till the colour is brown. Now add all the spices to the pan and continue stirring.

  • Step 3 Slow-cook the mutton

    Add half of the fried onions to mutton and mix well. Pour water into the mixture and add salt as required. Allow it to heat until it starts boiling. Now cover the pan with a lid and cook the mutton properly.

  • Step 4 Add wheat flour mixture to thicken the consistency of the gravy

    Now add the remaining fried onion to the cooked mutton. In the end make a mixture of wheat flour and some water without forming lumps, in a small bowl and add it to the mutton.

  • Step 5 Your Nihari Gosht is ready!

    Keep it on the stove till the consistency of the gravy thickens. Finally add sliced ginger on the top of it and cook for another 10 minutes. Once ready serve this delicious Mughlai dish with your choice of Indian bread or rice.
