Moong Dal Vada is a delicious South Indian recipe that can be consumed like a snack or a side dish with a meal. It's one of the most popular snacks in southern India and is made using green moong dal, chana dal, onion, ginger-garlic, and green chili.

Step 1 Soak the dals for 5-6 hours
Soak the moong and chana dal in warm water overnight or for at least 5 to 6 hours.

Step 2 Grind the dals to make a thick batter
Once the dal has soaked well, drain the water and grind using very little water to make a coarse thick vada batter.

Step 3 Mix onion and other ingredients in the batter
Transfer the batter to a mixing bowl. Add chopped onions, chillies, ginger-garlic paste, asafoetida and salt to taste. Mix well to combine and allow it rest for 10 minutes.

Step 4 Deep fry the vadas
Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium flame. Once the oil is hot enough, make small balls of the Moong Dal Vada batter and drop in the hot oil carefully. Deep fry the vadas on medium heat till they turn golden brown and crispy.

Step 5 Serve warm
Place the moong dal vada onto a plate with an oil absorbent paper and drain the excess oil. Serve warm.
