Ugadi is round the corner and it is time to celebrate the festival with all types of mouth-watering dishes. One such festive dish is Mavinakayi Chitranna, also known as Mango Rice. This dish is typically famous in Karnataka and is relished on the occasion of Ugadi.

Step 1 Cook the rice
Firstly cook the rice your usual way. Once cooked, set them aside for later usage.

Step 2 Heat oil in a kadhai
Now heat oil in a kadhai, add asafoetida, dry red chilli, curry leaves, chana dal and urad dal. Let them splutter for a few minutes.

Step 3 Add grated mango
Add the raw grated mango and turmeric powder. Mix well.

Step 4 Saute well
Saute for a few minutes until the mango starts shrinking.

Step 5 Add cooked rice
Finally, add cooked rice and mix well. Add salt as per your taste.

Step 6 Garnish and serve
