Ingredients:

For Garnishing :

  • Step 1

This easy delightful khichdi recipe is a must try! Here’s how you can make this dish at home without putting in much efforts. Take two bowls and wash green moong dal and rice in running water. Then, soak both the ingredients for about 2 hours. This will reduce the cooking time and make the lentil and rice soft.

  • Step 2

Drain water from dal and rice. Then add the soaked lentil and rice in a pressure cooker. Put the cooker on medium flame and add green chillies, turmeric powder, asafoetida, black pepper, cinnamon sticks and salt. Mix all the ingredients and add water. Then stir well.

  • Step 3

Close the lid of the cooker and cook the rice and dal for about 2 whistles. After two whistles, reduce the flame and let the rice and dal cook for a few minutes (for about 10 minutes). Turn off the burner and let the steam release.

  • Step 4

Once the steam is released, uncover the lid of the cooker and give it a stir to check whether it is cooked completely or not. If not, put the cooker once again on medium flame and cook for about 2--3 whistles. Once the khichdi is done, drizzle some ghee on top and mix well. Serve hot!
