Hamentaschen Recipe

Hamantashen is a Mediterranean recipe which will surely be liking of everyone in your house. This three cornered cookie is mostly filled with jam, nutella or chocolate hazelnut spread hence making it quite an irresistible treat to devour on. This dessert recipe is quite easy to prepare at home because it involves no fuss ingredients.

  • Step 1

    Start by pre-heating the oven to a temperature of 350 degrees. In a blender, pour butter and sugar along with the eggs, vanilla extract, orange juice and orange zest. Blend it on a high speed till you attain a smooth paste.

    Now, in a separate bowl sift together baking powder and flour. Add it to the paste prepared above and knead it to make a soft dough. Cover it with a cloth and slide it in the refrigerator for sometime.

    Dust a surface with flour and flatten this dough by pressing it with your palms. Using a cutter, carve out as many big circles as possible and place it on a separate large plate. Slide this plate into the refrigerator again for sometime.

    Meanwhile, grind the poppy seeds in a food processor for a few seconds. Once done, add the ground powder in a small saucepan placed over medium flame along with honey and milk. Stir until thick and add raisins along with lemon zest to it. After a minute, remove it from the flame and mix it with the paste prepared in the first step.

  • Step 5

    Take it out from the refrigerator and carve out triangle shaped dough from the big circular dough that you had stored in the refrigerator. In between the triangle shaped dough, add the orange zest paste and start folding it from the sides.

    Now, grease a baking tray and place these cookies in it. Slide this tray in the pre-heated oven and bake for minimum 20 minutes or till it turns golden brown in color. Cool these cookies on a wire rack. Your Hamantaschen is now ready. Serve cold.
