What is Ganesh Chaturthi without modak? Every festival has its own specialty, similarly modak is a Ganesh Chaturthi special. We have a special modak recipe that kids are going to love. Yes, we are talking about Chocolate Seeded Modak, which has a sweet twist of super delicious chocolatey twist along with grated coconuts. Lord Ganesha used to love modak and this is the reason why devotees prepare modaks to be served as prasad to the Him.

  • Step 1 Prepare the filling for the modak

    To start making this sweet recipe, preheat 2 tablespoons of ghee in a non stick pan and add grated coconut, jaggery, dry fruits, cooking chocolate, saffron, cardamom powder and nutmeg powder one after the another slowly. On a low flame, keep on stirring and let all the ingredients cook until it turns grainy and dry. Keep the mixture aside to be used as a filling for modaks.

  • Step 2 Prepare the dough for covering the filling

    To make dough for modak, take a low bottomed saucepan and start boiling water it it with a tablespoon of ghee mixed in it. In a bowl, add salt and a tablespoon of ghee to the rice flour and mix.Now add the flour mixture into the boiling water and keep stirring on a low flame. Before the boiling water and flour mixture cools down, knead it into a doughy paste.

  • Step 3 Assemble the dough and filling to prepare the modak

    Prepare the steamer. In the meanwhile, pull out small portions from the dough and roll it to form a disc. Place the filling (Step 1) in the centre of the disc and bring the edges together making the shape of a modak. Steam the so formed modaks for around 4 to 5 minutes. You are ready to serve them as a prasad to Lord Ganesha.
