Bhogar Khichuri Recipe

Bhoger khichuri recipe for Durga puja, Saraswati puja, or Lakshmi puja with step-by-step. Niramish bhoger khichuri or blog ki khichdi is where moong dal and Gobind bhog rice are cooked together with a few Indian spices and vegetables, then offer to God. Bhog is that particular food that is first offering to God and later distributed to all as Prasad or Prasadam and khichuri is one of them. This Bengali bhoger khichuri or khichdi is actually a moong dal er khichuri and this recipe is prepared with no onion, garlic, and masoor dal that’s why it’s called niramish khichuri bhog too. The taste and aroma of bhoger khichuri are just incredible in one word, and I’m really a true lover of this niramish khichuri bhog recipe. My immense love towards this niramish bhog er khichuri every year attracts me to the puja pandals on Maha Ashtami where Ma er bhoger Prasad is served. And I don’t mind standing in a long queue to get that khichuri Prasad in Durga Puja pandals. I believe you must be lucky enough to get ma er bhog prasad. And special brahmin cook or runner Thakur is appointed for making this niramish khichuri bhog or bhoger khichuri in pandals to serve the people.

Ingredients:

Recipe:

  • Step 1 Dry roast dal and rice and then soak rice

To prepare this dish, dry roast the dal and gobindobhog rice over medium flame. Wash them thoroughly after dry roasting and set them aside. After that, soak the rice in water.

  • Step 2 Prepare the tempering and fry coconut cubes

Put a pot over medium flame and heat mustard oil in it. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and dry red chili. As jeera starts spluttering, add the tender coconut cubes.

  • Step 3 Fry potato cubes with coconut

As coconut cubes start changing color, add the potato cubes and fry them as well. Fry them for few minutes. (Make sure to boil potato cubes before frying, not only it fastens cooking but also makes potatoes healthy as the water with starch has been drained out, also even boiled potatoes make the Khichuri tastier.)

  • Step 4 Add tomato with ginger paste

Then, add water as much as needed. Stir well and then add salt to taste, 1 tsp turmeric powder and chop the tomato into cubes, and put it in the pot. Add 1/2 tsp ginger paste.

  • Step 5 Cook dal and rice into it

Add the roasted dal. Cover with a lid and cook till dal gets half cooked. Add the water-soaked rice and sugar to taste. Stir well, and cover with a lid and wait till the nice aroma of the rice starts coming out. It means rice is ready.

  • Step 6 Garnish with ghee and garam masala and serve hot

Add ghee and garam masala powder and finish cooking. Serve hot with Beguni or crispy Aloo Bhaja.
