Minesweeper
Clear every safe square without detonating a mine. Click to reveal, flag mode to mark.
How to play Minesweeper
- 1 Pick a difficulty, then click any square. Your first click is always safe.
- 2 A number tells you how many mines touch that square, counting diagonals.
- 3 Use the numbers to deduce where the mines are — turn on flag mode (or right-click) to mark them.
- 4 Reveal every square that is not a mine to win.
About Minesweeper
Minesweeper is a pure logic puzzle: no reflexes, no luck once you are underway. Every number is a constraint, and the board is solved by combining them.
The simplest pattern to learn: if a square shows 1 and it already touches one flag, every other square around it is safe. The next: if a 1 touches exactly one hidden square, that square is a mine. Almost every board falls to those two rules applied repeatedly.
Your first click here is guaranteed safe and always opens an area, because the mines are laid after you click rather than before. Losing on move one is not a puzzle.
Frequently asked questions
How do I place a flag on a phone?
Turn on flag mode with the ⚑ toggle above the board, then tap a square. Turn it off to go back to revealing.
Can I lose on the first click?
No. Mines are placed after your first click, avoiding that square and everything around it.
What do the numbers mean?
A number is how many of the eight surrounding squares contain a mine.
