How to play Whack-a-Mole

  3. 3 Consecutive hits build a streak, and each one is worth more.
  4. 4 Dark moles with red eyes are bombs — hitting one costs five points and resets your streak.
  5. 5 The moles get faster, and bombs get commoner, as the clock runs down.

About Whack-a-Mole

Whack-a-Mole is the most direct game on the site: tapping is the whole mechanic, which is why it works better on a phone than on a desktop.

The bombs are what stop it being pure reflex. Late in a round roughly a quarter of what pops up will cost you points, so hammering every hole as fast as possible scores worse than tapping deliberately — and because the streak bonus grows with consecutive hits, one careless bomb is expensive twice over.

Rounds are forty-five seconds, which makes it an easy game to play once more.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a round of Whack-a-Mole?

Forty-five seconds. The moles speed up and bombs get more frequent as the clock runs down.

What are the dark moles?

Bombs. Hitting one costs five points and resets your streak, so it is worth taking half a beat to check before you tap.

How is the score calculated?

Ten points per mole, plus a bonus that grows with each consecutive hit up to ten. Accuracy beats speed.
