How to play Connect Four
- 1 Choose a difficulty. You play the yellow discs and move first.
- 2 Tap anywhere in a column to drop your disc into the lowest free slot.
- 3 Line up four of your discs in a row — horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
- 4 Watch the computer's threats: three of its discs in a line means you must block immediately.
About Connect Four
Connect Four looks simple and is not. Because discs stack, every move you make also hands your opponent the square directly above — which is why a natural-looking move can lose on the spot.
Two ideas beat most opponents. Take the centre column early: it is part of more winning lines than any other, so the discs you put there work hardest. And look for a "double threat" — a move that creates two separate ways to make four at once, because your opponent can only block one of them.
The hard opponent searches six moves ahead, so it will find those double threats against you. Medium is a fairer fight.
